What if there was a medication that could treat 100 different conditions, didn't require a prescription, and was free? There is - Hypnosis.

Hypnosis a form of therapy that was practiced 2000 years ago by ancient Egyptians and rediscovered in the late 1700's by Austrian physician Franz Anton Mesmer.    The latest research shows that it can ease pain, speed healing, increase fertility, even fight cancer.

And, contrary to popular belief, a hypnotized person isn't asleep and can't be compelled to act against his or her own wishes.  Hypnosis is often described as a form of deep relaxation in which the inner, subconscious mind, can be utilized to facilitate wanted changes in one's life.

Psychologists describe Hypnosis as an altered state of mind in which one's normal skepticism is largely suspended, allowing a client to focus their attention on a single image and be open to suggestions posed by your therapist.  Some therapists call it "daydreaming with a purpose".  It's similar to being absorbed into  good novel, engrossed in a movie, or listening so intently to the car radio you have little memory of driving to your destination (highway hypnosis).

New brain scan technology shows that hypnosis can alter the way sensory messages are received in the brain and experienced in the body.  In a recent brain-imaging study conducted at the University of Iowa, researchers found that hypnosis actually blocks pain signals from getting to the part of the brain responsible for conscious perception of discomfort.  PET scans - which reveal active areas of the brain-also indicate that hypnotized people process suggested sounds and images in the same part of the brain that registers real ones.  (Exerpts from the  "The Healing Power of Hypnosis", by Alex Jetter, Prevention Magazine, March, 2006.)
Basic Facts concerning the  Medical Benefits of Hypnosis:
  • Hypnosis was approved by the American Medical Association (AMA) in 1958 as a valuable healing modality for anesthesia and pain control
  • Years of research have proven the overwhelming success of hypnosis
  • Hypnotherapy can help you harness the vast power of your mind
  • It is safe, cost effective, and naturally occurring state of mind
  • Hypnosis has been used for centuries without side effects
  • Hypnosis can be used by any person of normal intelligence
Some Medical Uses of Hypnosis:
  • Stress Management - Stress is a total body response to a perceived internal or external threat.  Stress can save lives in emergencies, but is also responsible for 60 - 90% of all illnesses.
  • Pain Management - There are two components of pain, the affected site and the perception by the brain.  Stress exacerbates pain and pain management can be expensive.  Hypnotherapy is a powerful, simple and safe method for managing pain.
  • Childbirth and fertility - Hypnotically prepared births allow for less pain medication, shorter labors, higher Apgar scores, lower postpartum depression, and fewer NICU admissions
  • Preparation for surgery - pre-surgery hypnosis can reduce anxiety, lessen pain, there are fewer complications, shorter hospital stays, and patients have quicker recoveries.

Hypnosis is simply a state of deep mental and physical relaxation.  In this state the subconscious mind easily accepts suggestions and imagery.  Even without knowing it, we enter hypnotic states every day, whenever we are on "automatic pilot". We also enter a hypnotic state as we fall asleep at night, known as the hypnogogic state.

How does Hypnosis work?  Your subconscious mind controls the autonomic bodily functions such as heart rate, blood pressure, and respiration.  Some activities become subconscious functions, such as learning to drive a car.  Initially you had to concentrate on every your every move, but after practice, it became an automatic function.

Your conscious mind is the part of our mind that analyzes and thinks rationally.

In Hypnotherapy, our goal is to access the subconscious mind to enable us to access the root of the problem.  We can recall memories that are not accessible to the conscious mind and even change beliefs and habits by going to the subconscious mind.

If you look at a model of the adult mind, you will find that 88% of the mind is subconscious, and only 12% is our conscious mind.  Most of what goes on in our minds is subconscious.  Hypnosis creates a bridge from the conscious to the subconscious mind so that we can tap into its tremendous power.

Your mind is always aware and observing. During hypnosis you will hear everything I say.  You are always in control.
